Sometimes when you look into your room, you feel that there is something missing. All the components of interior design have been added such as color palette, furniture pieces, and decorative items. However, you still feel that the interior looks plain and simple. In many instances, wall texture is always treated as an afterthought, neglecting its importance in interior design. Texture makes the room look bold and dynamic. It fine-tunes the interior to a different level. It is defined as the sensations caused by the external surface of objects received through the sense of touch. In other words, how we feel things. Wall texture plays an important role in the function of the space and is vital in the success of the interior.

Add life into your home by texturing your walls

Texturing the walls is one of the ways to add character to a home interior. Adding texture was once done exclusively by home painters. However, nowadays, you can already do it on your own with the number of tools available in different home improvement stores. You can also be creative and resourceful by using objects such as combs, brooms, cloth, and sponges to finish the walls.

The drywall mud

Drywall mud is easy to use and is available in any home improvement store. Even untrained individuals can use them without any complications. In addition to these, drywall mud can be simply wiped away if you accidentally applied too much or committed a mistake.

Before applying the drywall mud, be sure that the walls are clean and completely dry. Water down the compound before applying them to the wall so that the consistency is like that of a thick pancake batter. Apply taping or joint compound to the wall with the use of a trowel. If a trowel is not available, a wide compound knife may be used. Dab a sponge against the wall repeatedly to create an overall texture. Allow it to dry completely before applying paint.

Paint to add texture to the wall

There are many different textured paints available in the market. This material is similar to drywall mud. However, unlike the drywall mud, textured paints are a little bit more difficult to remove. As such, you need to be precise in applying textured paint. Textured paint can be applied with the use of a standard paint roller and a brush. You will also need to apply two coats to successfully achieve the desired appearance.

The use of machines to add texture on walls

For large wall surfaces, you will need to use a drywall texture sprayer. This machine is powered by compressed air and a gun-like nozzle. The sprayer covers a wider and larger wall surface and creates various appearances that you will love. The pattern that can be created depends on the type of compound, type of nozzle, and the amount of air that is propelling the mud.

Pros and cons of wall texture

Wall texture can also have its benefits and disadvantages. Wall texture can hide the imperfections of the walls, such as holes, nicks, and scratches. Textured paints and drywall mud can add character to any plain and boring walls at an affordable cost. Therefore, these materials are recommended to help you achieve the desired wall appearance.

On the other hand, textured walls may not be appealing to all. Just like in any interior design idea, textured walls may also go out of style, and nobody knows when. It may then be difficult to remove the textured paint or the drywall mud when they go out of style.
